The power to connect with target customers is the most sought after ingredient for business success.

The leads that you use can be either targeted or untargeted.

Targeted leads are not guaranteed customers, but they have a leaning possibly towards something you are presenting, whether it's a product or service. Their head is already in the game and could be very receptive to your presentation.

There is a big difference when you pursue the following list of prospects:

    1. Approach Family and Friends
    2. Hand out business cards
    3. Hand out post cards
    4. Hand out fliers
    5. Visit businesses, groups, clubs and neighbors
    6. Approach people who need extra income
    7. Approach MLM vendors at swap meets
    8. Market the Internet for people using free web pages

These are Untargeted Leads. This is cold calling.

They are not looking for something, and you could be spurned by them. The conversion ratio from lead to customer is very, very low. It doesn’t mean you should avoid them; no. Try them, you might have some luck. At least you might gain experience and understanding about marketing.

You choose how to connect with future clients. You will probably approach your "warm list" of family and friends first, but after you run out of them, what will you do? You could go door-to-door or stop everyone you come across. Most people will not attempt this.

Then you have meetings and gatherings or use different avenues of advertising.

Often it is difficult to develop a good list that affords you the opportunity to present your product or service again and again.

The best avenue that gives you the power to connect is to seek out targeted leads. They may cost more, but it is less work and a more effective process.
